SPSS exercise 1.15

When selecting the measure of central tendency, you must first find out how skewed the distribution is. For example, if you want to calculate the average age of five people aged 18, 19, 20, 20, and 44, then the median is a more suitable measure of central tendency, despite the ratio level of the 'age' variable. Using a histogram, you can indicate the distribution and the dispersion of variables. This information is expressed in the 'skewness' of the distribution. For the following histograms, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion and skewness, state which measure of central tendency is the most suitable.

a. Total number of seconds spent watching television per week.

b. Education in years.
